Recordemos que cuando Pedro exhortó a sus lectores a tener “amor intenso unos para con otros”, también explicó por qué era tan importante: “Porque el amor cubre una multitud de pecados” (1 Pedro 4:8). ‘Cubrir’ pecados no significa encubrir faltas graves, pues estas deben ponerse en conocimiento de quienes ocupan puestos de responsabilidad en la congregación para que las atiendan (Levítico 5:1; Proverbios 29:24). Sería una gran falta de amor, además de un proceder contrario a las Escrituras, permitir que los pecadores obstinados siguieran perjudicando o lastimando a las personas inocentes (1 Corintios 5:9-13).
En la mayoría de los casos, los errores y faltas de nuestros compañeros son leves. En vista de que todos, de vez en cuando, tropezamos de palabra u obra y herimos o desilusionamos a otros, ¿deberíamos apresurarnos a divulgar los defectos de los demás? (Santiago 3:2.) Hacerlo solo produciría fricciones en la congregación (Efesios 4:1-3). Si nos regimos por el amor, no “divulgar[emos] una falta” de un compañero (Salmo 50:20). Tal como el yeso y la pintura tapan las imperfecciones de una pared, el amor cubre los defectos ajenos (Proverbios 17:9).
(1 Pedro 4:8) Ante todo, tengan amor intenso unos para con otros, porque el amor cubre una multitud de pecados.
La mayor de las dádivas es sin duda alguna la vida eterna. Pablo escribió a la congregación de Roma: “El salario que el pecado paga es muerte, pero el don [kjá·ri·sma] que Dios da es vida eterna por Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor” (Romanos 6:23). Es de señalar que el “salario” (la muerte) es algo que nos hemos ganado, aunque involuntariamente, debido a nuestra naturaleza pecaminosa. Por otra parte, la vida eterna que Dios ofrece es absolutamente inmerecida, y jamás podríamos ganarla por méritos propios.
El don de la vida eterna se debería valorar y compartir. Podemos ayudar a las personas a conocer a Jehová y servirle, de modo que les otorgue el don de la vida eterna. Revelación [Apocalipsis] 22:17 dice: “El espíritu y la novia siguen diciendo: ‘¡Ven!’. Y cualquiera que oiga, diga: ‘¡Ven!’. Y cualquiera que tenga sed, venga; cualquiera que desee, tome gratis el agua de la vida”.
¿Cómo podemos conducir a otras personas hacia esa agua vivificante? Principalmente usando la Biblia con eficacia en el ministerio. Es cierto que en algunos lugares la gente casi no lee sobre temas espirituales ni piensa en ellos; no obstante, siempre hay oportunidades de ‘despertar el oído’ de alguien (Isaías 50:4). A este respecto, podemos confiar en la fuerza motivadora de la Biblia, “porque la palabra de Dios es viva, y ejerce poder” (Hebreos 4:12). Ya sea por su sabiduría práctica, por el consuelo y la esperanza que ofrece, o por su explicación del propósito de la vida, la Palabra de Dios puede tocar el corazón de las personas e iniciarlas en el camino a la vida (2 Timoteo 3:16, 17).

The greatest gift of all is undoubtedly the gift of everlasting life. Paul wrote to the Roman congregation: “The wages sin pays is death, but the gift [kha′ri·sma] God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) It is worth noting that the “wages” (death) are something we have earned, albeit unwillingly, by our sinful nature. On the other hand, the everlasting life that God makes available is something totally undeserved that we could never earn on our own merits.
The gift of everlasting life should be treasured and shared. We can help people get to know Jehovah, to serve him and thus be favored with the gift of everlasting life. Revelation 22:17 says: “The spirit and the bride keep on saying: ‘Come!’ And let anyone hearing say: ‘Come!’ And let anyone thirsting come; let anyone that wishes take life’s water free.”
How can we lead others to this life-giving water? Mainly by using the Bible to good effect in our ministry. It is true that in some parts of the world, people rarely read or think about spiritual things; nevertheless, there are always opportunities to ‘awaken the ear’ of someone. (Isaiah 50:4) In this regard, we can be confident in the Bible’s motivating force, “for the word of God is alive and exerts power.” (Hebrews 4:12) Whether it be the Bible’s practical wisdom, the comfort and hope it offers, or its explanation about the purpose of life, God’s Word can touch the heart and start people on the road to life.—2 Timothy 3:16, 17.

According to the Bible, there is a very simple answer. Posing as “an angel of light,” Satan the Devil has misled millions into following his teachings rather than God’s. (2 Corinthians 11:14) The apostle John showed that Satan’s influence is so extensive that “the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.” (1 John 5:19) John knew that Satan was “misleading the entire inhabited earth.”—Revelation 12:9.
What have been the consequences of this? Satan has promoted religious systems that on the surface appear to be holy. They have “a façade of ‘religion,’” but their true condition is exposed by the evil fruitage they produce. (2 Timothy 3:5, J. B. Phillips; Matthew 7:15-20) Instead of helping to solve mankind’s problems, religion actually becomes part of the problem.
Do not quickly dismiss that idea as being farfetched or unreasonable. Remember, the very nature of deception is that the one being deceived is unaware of it. The apostle Paul gave an example of this when he wrote: “The things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God.” (1 Corinthians 10:20) Those people would likely have been shocked to think that they were worshiping demons. They thought that they were worshiping a good god, or gods, of some kind. Yet, in reality they had been deceived by “wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places,” who support Satan in his efforts to mislead mankind.—Ephesians 6:12.
Let us consider, for example, how Satan managed to deceive and mislead many professed Christians who chose to ignore the apostle John’s warning about that evil influence.—1 Corinthians 10:12.
