Cuando el poderoso ejército asirio invadió Judá y amenazó Jerusalén en el siglo VIII antes de nuestra era, Jehová envió un ángel que derribó en una sola noche a 185.000 asirios, salvando así a sus siervos fieles (Isa. 37:32, 36). Unos días antes de morir, Jesús hizo una advertencia profética a sus discípulos de Judea (Luc. 21:20-22). En el año 66, el ejército romano sitió Jerusalén, pero de repente se retiró. Los cristianos fieles se dieron cuenta de que tenían ante sí la oportunidad de salvarse de la destrucción que había predicho Jesús, y huyeron a las montañas. Cuando los romanos regresaron en el año 70, destruyeron por completo a Jerusalén. Los discípulos que habían hecho caso de la advertencia de Jesús se libraron de aquella calamidad (Luc. 19:41-44). Sin importar las circunstancias que podamos afrontar ahora o en el futuro, tenemos razones para confiar plenamente en nuestro Libertador (Sal. 70:5).

Jehovah knows how to deliver people of godly devotion out of trial.—2 Pet. 2:9.
When the mighty Assyrian army invaded Judah and threatened Jerusalem in the eighth century B.C.E., Jehovah sent an angel who struck down 185,000 Assyrians, providing deliverance for Jehovah’s faithful servants. (Isa. 37:32, 36) Just days before his death, Jesus gave a prophetic warning for the benefit of his disciples in Judea. (Luke 21:20-22) In 66 C.E., Roman forces came against Jerusalem; then they suddenly withdrew. Recognizing this as an opportunity to escape the destruction that Jesus had foretold, faithful Christians fled to the mountains. When the Roman legions returned in 70 C.E., Jerusalem was completely destroyed. The Christians who had heeded Jesus’ warning escaped that terrible calamity. (Luke 19:41-44) No matter what challenges we may be facing now or may yet encounter in the future, we too can put full trust in Jehovah as our “Provider of escape.”—Ps. 70:5.
