Los pastores cristianos deben conocer bien el rebaño de Dios que está a su cargo y estar pendientes de lo que le sucede (compárese con Proverbios 27:23). A Jehová le complace ver que los ancianos lo imitan y ayudan a las ovejas descarriadas a regresar al rebaño. Cuando un cristiano se enferma, la visita de un pastor del rebaño de Dios puede alegrarlo y fortalecerlo. Lo mismo se puede decir cuando un hermano espiritualmente enfermo recibe atención personal. Entre otras cosas, los ancianos podrían leerle algunos versículos de la Biblia, repasar un artículo de las revistas, hablar de algún punto importante de la reunión y orar con él. Podrían decirle que a la congregación le encantaría verlo de nuevo en las reuniones (2 Cor. 1:3-7; Sant. 5:13-15). I will search for my sheep and care for them.—Ezek. 34:11.
A Christian shepherd needs to know and keep track of the flock of God under his care. (Compare Proverbs 27:23.) God is pleased when elders take steps in an effort to help sheep who have strayed to return to the flock. When a fellow believer is physically sick, the visit of a shepherd of God’s flock can be a source of joy and encouragement. The same can be the case when a spiritually ailing sheep is given personal attention. Elders may read scriptures, review an article, discuss meeting highlights, pray with the inactive one, and so forth. They can point out that members of the congregation would be delighted to see him come back to congregation meetings. (2 Cor. 1:3-7; Jas. 5:13-15) A visit, a telephone call, or a letter can mean so much! Giving personal help to a sheep missing from the flock can also increase the joy of the compassionate Christian shepherd.
