Es cosa horrenda caer en las manos del Dios vivo (Heb. 10:31).
Ananías y Safira eran un matrimonio de la congregación de Jerusalén. Vendieron un campo y donaron parte del dinero a un fondo común que se había creado para atender a los nuevos discípulos de lugares lejanos que estaban de visita en Jerusalén. Sin embargo, Ananías y Safira fingieron que donaban todos los beneficios obtenidos con la transacción, cuando en realidad solo entregaron una parte. Seguramente, los dos pretendían gozar de algún honor especial entre los hermanos. Pero esa manera de actuar era un engaño. De forma milagrosa, Jehová reveló el fraude al apóstol Pedro, quien lo expuso delante de Ananías. Acto seguido, este se desplomó y murió, y otro tanto le ocurrió poco más tarde a su mujer (Hech. 5:1-11). No era que Ananías y Safira hubiesen tenido un momento de debilidad. Habían actuado con total premeditación intentando engañar a los apóstoles. Y lo que es peor, se habían atrevido a “tratar con engaño al espíritu santo y [...] a Dios”.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.—Heb. 10:31.
Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, were members of the early Christian congregation in Jerusalem. They sold a field and donated part of the money to a common fund that had been set up to care for new believers who had come to Jerusalem from distant lands. However, Ananias and Sapphira pretended that they had donated the entire proceeds. No doubt, this couple wanted to gain special honor within the congregation. But their act was deceitful. In a miraculous way, Jehovah revealed the fraud to the apostle Peter, who confronted Ananias with his error. At that, Ananias fell down and expired. Shortly thereafter, Sapphira also died. (Acts 5:1-11) Ananias and Sapphira did not fall prey to a momentary weakness. They schemed and lied in an attempt to deceive the apostles. Worse still, they ‘played false to the holy spirit and to God.
