Tu pueblo será mi pueblo, y tu Dios mi Dios (Rut 1:16).
De joven, es muy probable que Rut sirviera a Kemós y las demás divinidades de Moab. Pero llegó a conocer al Dios verdadero y se casó con un israelita que se había refugiado en su país (Rut 1:1-6). Más tarde, ella y su cuñada Orpá se quedaron viudas y acompañaron a su suegra Noemí en un viaje a Belén. En el camino, Noemí las exhortó a regresar a su tierra, pues no les iba a ser fácil la vida en Israel. Orpá le hizo caso y “[volvió] a su pueblo y a sus dioses” (Rut 1:15). Rut, por el contrario, se guió por su fe y demostró que sabía muy bien a quién quería pertenecer. Por eso le dijo a Noemí: “No me instes con ruegos a que te abandone, a que me vuelva de acompañarte; porque a donde tú vayas yo iré, y donde tú pases la noche yo pasaré la noche”. Gracias a su decisión, se benefició de las estipulaciones de la Ley a favor de las viudas, los pobres y las personas sin tierras. Bajo las alas de Jehová encontró verdadera felicidad, protección y seguridad.

Your people will be my people, and your God my God.—Ruth 1:16.
As a girl, Ruth had probably worshipped Chemosh and the other gods of Moab, but she came to know the true God, Jehovah, and she married an Israelite who had come to take refuge in her land. (Ruth 1:1-6) Later, as Ruth and her sister-in-law, Orpah, started out with their mother-in-law, Naomi, for Bethlehem, Naomi urged the two young women to return home. It would not be easy for them to settle in Israel. Orpah indeed “returned to her people and her gods,” but Ruth did not. (Ruth 1:15) She acted on her faith and knew to whom she wanted to belong. She told Naomi: “Do not plead with me to abandon you, to turn back from accompanying you; for where you go I shall go, and where you spend the night I shall spend the night.” Because of her choice to serve Jehovah, Ruth benefited from God’s Law, which made special provision for widows and for the poor and landless. Under Jehovah’s wings, she found happiness, protection, and security.
