Juan 8:29—John 8:29.

Miércoles 25 de agosto
Yo siempre hago las cosas que le agradan [a Dios] (Juan 8:29).
¿Qué sacrificios llegó a hacer Jesús para complacer a su Padre? Él dijo a sus discípulos: “El Hijo del hombre no vino para que se le ministrara, sino para ministrar y para dar su alma en rescate en cambio por muchos” (Mat. 20:28). Como ya vimos, cuando en una ocasión anterior Jesús les advirtió a sus discípulos que pronto tendría que “dar su alma”, Pedro le dijo que no fuera tan severo consigo mismo. Pero Jesús no se dejó influir por ese comentario. Estuvo dispuesto a dar su alma, su vida humana perfecta, a favor de la humanidad. Y Jehová recompensó su abnegación asegurándole su futuro: lo resucitó y lo ensalzó a su diestra (Hech. 2:32, 33). ¡Qué gran ejemplo es Jesús para todos nosotros! El apóstol Pablo les recordó a los cristianos de Roma que ni siquiera “el Cristo [...] se agradó a sí mismo” y les aconsejó que lo imitaran (Rom. 15:1-3). ¿Y nosotros? ¿Estamos dispuestos a seguir ese consejo y demostrar el mismo espíritu de sacrificio que Jesús?

I always do the things pleasing to [God].—John 8:29.
How far did Jesus go in order to please God? On one occasion, Jesus said to his disciples: “The Son of man came, not to be ministered to, but to minister and to give his soul a ransom in exchange for many.” (Matt. 20:28) Earlier, when Jesus began to warn his followers that he would soon have to “give his soul,” Peter urged him to be kind to himself. Still, Jesus was not swayed. He willingly gave up his soul, his perfect human life, for mankind. As a result of his unselfish course, Jesus’ own future was secure. He was resurrected and “exalted to the right hand of God.” (Acts 2:32, 33) He thus became a wonderful example for us. The apostle Paul counseled Christians in Rome “not to be pleasing” themselves and reminded them that “even the Christ did not please himself.” (Rom. 15:1-3) So, then, to what extent will we apply that apostolic counsel and give of ourselves in imitation of Christ?

Contigo está la fuente de la vida (Sal. 36:9).
Pregúntese: “¿Estoy consciente de lo mucho que he prosperado por obedecer fielmente los principios bíblicos relacionados con la fornicación y el uso de la sangre?”. Pensemos también en los beneficios que hemos recibido gracias a que nos hemos limpiado “de toda contaminación de la carne y del espíritu” (2 Cor. 7:1). El respeto a las normas bíblicas sobre la higiene personal nos ahorra muchas enfermedades. También prosperamos debido a que no consumimos tabaco ni drogas. ¿Y qué se puede decir de la buena salud que tenemos gracias a que comemos y bebemos con moderación? (Pro. 23:20; Tito 2:2, 3.) Aunque el descanso y el ejercicio contribuyen al bienestar general, la razón principal por la que hemos prosperado física y espiritualmente es que seguimos la guía de las Escrituras. De todos modos, lo más importante es cuidar nuestra salud espiritual y estrechar la inestimable relación que tenemos con nuestro Padre celestial.

With you is the source of life.—Ps. 36:9.

Ask yourself, ‘Do I appreciate the extent to which I have personally prospered because of my strict observance of Bible principles regarding blood and fornication?’ Think, too, of the benefits that have come to us as a result of our efforts to “cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit.” (2 Cor. 7:1) By adhering to Bible standards regarding personal hygiene, we avoid many physical ailments. We prosper because of shunning the defiling use of tobacco and illicit drugs. Consider also the health benefits that result from moderation in eating and drinking. (Prov. 23:20; Titus 2:2, 3) Although such factors as rest and exercise may contribute to our general well-being, we have especially prospered physically and spiritually because we have accepted Scriptural guidance. Above all, we should take care of our spiritual health and strengthen our precious relationship with our heavenly Father.

Si pertenecen a Cristo, realmente son descendencia de Abrahán, herederos respecto a una promesa (Gál. 3:29).
¿Por qué dice Pablo que la Descendencia prometida es Cristo y luego dice que son los cristianos ungidos? Hoy día hay millones de personas que se enorgullecen de ser descendientes de Abrahán. De hecho, algunas religiones afirman que sus profetas descienden de este patriarca. Ahora bien, ¿conforman esas personas la Descendencia prometida? No. Como señaló el apóstol Pablo bajo inspiración, no todos los descendientes de Abrahán pueden afirmar que son parte de esa Descendencia. Aunque Abrahán tuvo varios hijos, la Descendencia mediante la cual se bendeciría a la humanidad solo vendría mediante uno de ellos: Isaac (Heb. 11:18). Al final, solo un descendiente de Abrahán sería la parte principal de la descendencia prometida, y ese resultó ser Jesucristo, quien, como bien se documenta en la Biblia, era descendiente directo de Abrahán por Isaac. Los cristianos ungidos llegaron después a formar la parte secundaria de la descendencia de Abrahán. Y la razón por la que se les concede este privilegio es que “pertenecen a Cristo”. El papel de Jesús en el cumplimiento de la primera profecía de la Biblia es realmente singular.

If you belong to Christ, you are really Abraham’s seed, heirs with reference to a promise.—Gal. 3:29.

How is it that Christ is the promised Seed, and yet others too are included? Millions claim to have descended from Abraham, some even acting as prophets. Some religions place great importance on the claim that their prophets descended from Abraham. But are all of these the promised Seed? No. As the apostle Paul points out under inspiration, not all of Abraham’s descendants can claim to be the promised Seed. The offspring of Abraham’s other sons were not used to bless humankind. The seed of blessing was to be through Isaac alone. (Heb. 11:18) Ultimately, only one man, Jesus Christ, whose genealogy from Abraham is documented in the Bible, is the primary part of that foretold seed. All others who later become the secondary part of Abraham’s seed are such because they “belong to Christ.” Jesus’ role in fulfilling this prophecy is truly unique.
