Cuando la expresión “cuerda triple” se usa para referirse metafóricamente al matrimonio, se da a entender que el esposo, la esposa y Jehová son tres hebras entrelazadas en una sola cuerda, y que Jehová es la hebra principal. Estar cerca de Dios le da a la pareja la fortaleza espiritual necesaria para vencer las dificultades y es la clave de la verdadera felicidad en el matrimonio. ¿Qué puede hacer una pareja para que su matrimonio sea como esa cuerda de tres hebras? El salmista David cantó: “En hacer tu voluntad, oh Dios mío, me he deleitado, y tu ley está dentro de mis entrañas” (Sal. 40:8). El amor por Jehová impulsó a David a servirle de todo corazón, y también impulsa a los cristianos hoy día. Por eso es necesario que el esposo y la esposa estrechen su relación con Jehová y disfruten de hacer su voluntad. Además, no deberían olvidar que cada uno de ellos puede contribuir a que el otro ame más a Dios (Pro. 27:17).

A threefold cord cannot quickly be torn in two.—Eccl. 4:12.
“Threefold cord” is a figurative expression. When this illustration is applied to marriage, it includes the husband and wife, the first two strands, who are intertwined with the central strand, Jehovah God. Being united with God gives a couple the spiritual strength to cope with problems, and it is the key to achieving the greatest happiness in marriage. But what can a married couple do to ensure that their marriage is like such a threefold cord? The psalmist David sang: “To do your will, O my God, I have delighted, and your law is within my inward parts.” (Ps. 40:8) Our love for God likewise moves us to serve him with a complete heart. Thus, both mates should cultivate a warm personal relationship with Jehovah and find delight in doing his will. Marriage mates should also strive to strengthen their partner’s love for God.—Prov. 27:17. w08
