Todos ustedes son hermanos (Mat. 23:8).
Hay quien asegura que como Jesús dijo a sus discípulos las palabras del texto de hoy, no debería haber puestos de autoridad en la congregación cristiana. Sin embargo, tanto las Escrituras Hebreas como las Griegas contienen numerosos ejemplos de hombres que recibieron autoridad de parte de Dios. En el siglo primero, los apóstoles tenían cierta autoridad, y así lo reconocían los demás cristianos (Hech. 2:42). El apóstol Pablo, por ejemplo, dio instrucciones a sus hermanos (1 Cor. 16:1; 1 Tes. 4:2). Aun así, él mismo estuvo dispuesto a obedecer a los que poseían más autoridad que él (Hech. 15:22; Gál. 2:9, 10). De todo esto aprendemos una lección doble. En primer lugar, según las Escrituras, “el esclavo fiel y discreto” puede utilizar a su Cuerpo Gobernante para poner a ciertos hombres en puestos de responsabilidad y para otorgar a algunos hermanos autoridad sobre otros hombres nombrados (Mat. 24:45-47; 1 Ped. 5:1-3). Y la segunda es que todos, incluso los hombres nombrados, debemos respetar a quienes tengan autoridad sobre nosotros.

Some have reasoned that since Jesus told his disciples the above, there should be no positions of authority in the Christian congregation. However, both the Hebrew and the Greek Scriptures have numerous examples of men who exercised authority given to them by God. First-century Christians acknowledged the authority of the apostles. (Acts 2:42) Paul, for example, gave direction to his brothers. (1 Cor. 16:1; 1 Thess. 4:2) Nevertheless, he also willingly submitted to those who had authority over him. (Acts 15:22; Gal. 2:9, 10) The lesson we learn is twofold. First, it is Scriptural for “the faithful and discreet slave” through its Governing Body to appoint men to positions of responsibility, and some men are appointed to exercise authority over other appointed men. (Matt. 24:45-47; 1 Pet. 5:1-3) Second, all of us, including appointed men, should honor those who have authority over us.
