El hombre inmediatamente se puso bien de salud, y tomó su camilla y echó a andar (Juan 5:9).
Durante una visita a Jerusalén, Jesús vio a un enfermo en el estanque de Betzata y lo curó. Cuando algunos judíos empezaron a criticar lo que había hecho, él les contestó: “El Hijo no puede hacer ni una sola cosa por su propia iniciativa, sino únicamente lo que ve hacer al Padre”. Y después de decirles que el Padre había encargado “todo el juicio al Hijo”, añadió: “El que oye mi palabra y cree al que me envió tiene vida eterna”. También les dijo: “Viene la hora en que todos los que están en las tumbas conmemorativas oirán [la] voz [del Hijo del hombre] y saldrán, los que hicieron cosas buenas a una resurrección de vida, los que practicaron cosas viles a una resurrección de juicio” (Juan 5:1-8, 19, 22, 24-29). Jesús les estaba diciendo a sus opositores que él había sido elegido por Dios para hacer realidad la esperanza que tenían los judíos de vivir para siempre en la Tierra, algo que lograría resucitando a los muertos.

The man immediately became sound in health, and he picked up his cot and began to walk.—John 5:9.
In Jerusalem, Jesus restored a sick man to health at the pool of Bethzatha. To the Jews who criticized what he did, Jesus explained that “the Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing.” After telling them that the Father “has committed all the judging to the Son,” Jesus said: “He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has everlasting life.” Jesus also said: “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear [the Son of man’s] voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.” (John 5:1-8, 19, 22, 24-29) Jesus was telling the persecuting Jews that he was the one appointed by God to fulfill the Jewish hope of everlasting life on earth and that he would do so by raising the dead.
