En ocasiones, un estudiante de la Biblia que comienza a hacer cambios en su vida tiene que tomar difíciles decisiones. Quizás tenga amigos con los que le gusta pasar mucho tiempo, pero como ellos no respetan las normas bíblicas, se da cuenta de que su conducta podría influir negativamente en él y que lo mejor sería distanciarse. No obstante, el estudiante podría creer que haciendo eso los estaría traicionando. Si usted se encuentra en esa situación, recuerde que los amigos que realmente se preocupan por usted se alegrarán de saber que está tratando de mejorar su vida. Y puede que hasta quieran aprender de Jehová. Pero si lo critican o “habla[n] injuriosamente” de usted porque ya no está corriendo con ellos “al mismo bajo sumidero de disolución”, estarían demostrando que no son de verdad sus amigos (1 Ped. 4:3, 4). En ese caso, serían ellos quienes estarían traicionándolo a usted, y no al revés.

Bad associations spoil useful habits.—1 Cor. 15:33.
When a Bible student begins to make changes in his lifestyle, he may face a real challenge regarding friendships. He may have companions whose company he enjoys but who do not live by the Bible’s moral code. In the past, he may regularly have spent time socializing with them. Now, though, he sees that their activities could have a bad influence on him, and he feels the need to limit his contact with such companions. Even so, he may feel that if he does not associate with them, he is being disloyal. If you face this challenge, remember that a true friend will be happy that you are trying to improve your life. He or she may even want to join with you in learning about Jehovah. On the other hand, false friends will “go on speaking abusively of you” because you do not run with them to “the same low sink of debauchery.” (1 Pet. 4:3, 4) Really, it is these friends who are being disloyal to you, not the reverse.
